FIFA did not hear bribery allegations made by an ex-employee of Qatar’s World Cup bid because the worker asked for too much, the world’s soccer governing body said.

Bloomberg reports:

“Among others, the problems were that the whistleblower gave no warranty for the accuracy and correctness of the information he/she was providing, asked for the right to destroy the information at any time and that the information he/she provided not be made public,” FIFA said in an e-mailed response to Bloomberg News. The person also asked for “an unlimited witness protection program.”

On Monday, FIFA president Sepp Blatter said he would not call for an investigation into Qatar’s victory unless FIFA’s ethics body requests one.

Qatar has denied bribery allegations and denounced them as “distressing, insulting and incomprehensible.”
