From meeting a Filipina beauty queen to cheering on your favorite QSL teams to tuning into some great films at Katara, there is lots to do around town this weekend.

Symphony of Films
A five-day event titled A Symphony of Films will take place at Katara Drama Theater and Opera House from Thursday, Sept. 22 to Sept. 26.
According to the Doha Film Institute (DFI), there will be six film screenings, a film master class and a live musical accompaniment of a silent adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula (sold out).
Films to be screened include The Good, the Bad and the Ugly by Sergio Leone; North by Northwest by Alfred Hitchcock; a free youth screening of the 3D film Brave in the presence of Patrick Doyle; Akira Kurosawa’s Ran; Caramel by Nadine Labaki and Landscape in the Mist by Theo Angelopoulos.
Doyle, a renowned film music composer, will also conduct a concert with the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra. However, this is also already sold out. For more information, visit DFI’s website.
‘Shoot For a Cause’
The Philippine School Doha (PSD) is hosting an event this Thursday to collect funds for the World Vision Philippines and for the construction of the new PSD building.
The event will feature a photoshoot with Jaya San Jose, a Filipino beauty queen who won the title of Mutya ng Pilipinas-Tourism International.
A participation fee of QR50 is required for the shoot, which will begin at 2pm at PSD’s gymnasium. More information can be found here.
Aspire’s Splash and Dash
Head over to Aspire Dome’s athletics track and swimming pool to cool down or go for a run – or both – today.
The track and pool are open every Sunday and Wednesday until Oct. 30 to 50 participants per session. Registration is required onsite pre-session, and costs QR10/person. The facilities are available from 7pm to 9pm.
The sessions are open to people ages nine years old and above, and swimming skills are mandatory to be able to register.

Art workshops
Katara Art Studios is hosting a series of papier-mâché workshops by Thai artist Ooh on Sept. 23, 24 and 30, as well as Oct. 1.
Papier-mâché is a mixture of paper and glue, or paper, flour, and water, that becomes hard when dry. It is often used in arts and crafts to make various sculptures, fruit bowls, puppets, and dolls, among others.
Workshops will begin at 4pm and end at 8pm at the Katara Art Studios in Building 19 and cost QR50 per person.
There will also be a pencil portrait drawing workshop daily from Sept. 25-27. The sessions run from 5pm to 8pm in Building 19 and cost QR200 a person.

Qatar Stars League matches
Qatar Stars League (QSL) games will be running all weekend in several stadiums, including Al Arabi, Al Khor, Al Sadd, Al Wakrah and Al Gharafa.
Clubs playing this weekend include Al Gharafa, Al Sadd, Al Rayyan, Al Wakrah, Al Khor, Umm Salal and Al Ahli, among others.
Matches will run between 5:50pm and 8pm. More information can be found on QSL’s website.

- Community classes: Registration is now open at Georgetown University in Qatar for six-week courses that include Women in the Gulf, Introduction to Writing: Short Stories, Religion and others. The classes start Oct. 16 and are open to those over the age of 18 years old. Course prices vary, but there is a discount for registering before Sept. 30. More information is here.
