The very worst of the sticky, humid days of summer may soon be behind us – just in time for the Eid Al Adha holiday.

But don’t expect it to get cold anytime soon, as Qatar forecasters are predicting hotter-than-usual temperatures to persist through September and October.

In recent days, humidity levels have reached 85 percent in Ruwais in the north and 75 percent in Doha, with temperatures hovering in the mid-40s in inland areas.

Experts from Qatar Meteorology Department (MET) have previously said that the steamy conditions would last until at least the first week of September.

But the time has come for some humidity relief thanks to a change in wind direction, says Steff Gaulter, senior meteorologist for Al Jazeera English.

However, the weather won’t be changing overnight, she told Doha News.

“Usually the severity of the weather lasts into the beginning of September. From about mid-September onwards, you should notice a gradual improvement in our weather.

It is gradual though, so the improvement will be a slow process.”

The end of summer marks a transitional period for Qatar, and thus some wacky weather can occur.

Last week, a sudden sandstorm caught residents by surprise as it rolled in without warning and cast a dark and dusty cloud over much of Qatar.

The MET attributed the storm to thundery conditions in the north of the country. It dissipated soon afterwards.
