Qatar’s new foreign minister has said the country is prepared to join in renewed attacks against ISIL in Syria as part of a US-led coalition, but stopped short of the explicit threats made by his Saudi and Emirati counterparts to send ground forces into the war-torn country.

Speaking at the Munich Security Conference yesterday, Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani referenced remarks by his predecessor last October about a “military intervention” in Syria. Khalid Al Attiyah later clarified that Qatar would not send its troops into Syria, but Sheikh Mohamed said yesterday “that if the coalition has decided to do anything against Daesh, we are ready to do so.”
