The Asian champions and the African powerhouse matched-up in Turkey
Ghana beat Qatar 5-1 in an international friendly football game at the Mardan Sports Complex in Turkey.
Team Qatar were decked in their new kits unveiled by the Qatar Football Association this week, but in a tough game for the Al-Annabi, it was the only real cause for celebration.
The first goal scored was by Tarique Fosu at 22 minutes. Qatar’s Almoez Ali equalised 22 minutes later just before teams headed into the changing rooms for the half-time break.
In the second half, Ghana scored four more goals, with Andre Ayew getting a brace at the 63rd and 83rd minutes. The other goals were scored by Samuel Owusu and Caleb Ekuban.
The game was a chance for Al-Annabi to test their strength against a successful African team only after their dominance in Asia. Ghana had reached the quarter-finals in the 2010 World Cup, the second time an African team progressed so far in football’s top competition; while Qatar previously won the 2019 Asian Championship with an unbeaten run, conceding one goal and scoring 19 in the process.
