As clean up continues at a complex full of restaurants near Ramada signal that saw a dramatic fire earlier this month, there is no indication when the eateries – including several that were untouched by the blaze – will reopen for business.
The fire, which is believed to have started inside the wiring of a neon sign, badly damaged the upper sections of Caravan and Barbar restaurants, located at the intersection of C-Ring and Salwa roads.
The complex is also home to several other standalone restaurants, including Pizza Hut, Al Tazaj Bar BQ Chicken, Ponderosa, and Coffee Beanery.
All appear to have escaped fire damage, but they remain closed.
On site, representatives of the Sterling Group, which owns the eateries, refused to comment on when the complex may reopen, saying it was corporate policy not to speak to the media.
Outside, more than a dozen employees appeared to be taking a break in the shade as other removed bags of garbage from Barbar.
One staffer said that many employees who would have otherwise been cooking and waiting tables for the lunch crowd have been temporarily assigned to other locations.
