As the weather heats up, Qatar’s two outdoor fruit and vegetable markets are winding down the season today, with plans to reopen in December.
Fresh Qatar-grown vegetables and low-priced imported fruits were sold at two shaded locations this year – the main Al Mazrouah Yard in Umm Salal, which opened in December, and a newly launched area in Al Khor, which opening in January.
At the end of the year, the Ministry of Environment said it plans to open a third market in Al Wakrah.
Buying local seemed to be a popular option for many residents this year. According to the Peninsula, Al Mazrouah more than doubled its sales this season, from 1,993 tons of produce compared to 837 tons last year.
Did you frequent the farmer’s markets this season? Thoughts?
