Many Qatar residents began their morning commutes today with a smile, after much-anticipated rain showers began sprinkling the country.
Precipitation in the desert is usually enough of a cause for celebration, but the added bonus of a smoother commute into West Bay thanks to the conclusion of construction work also gave people a boost:

The Qatar Meteorology Department, which yesterday scuttled widespread social media reports of a rain-related disaster, said to expect possible thunderstorms and strong winds today. The precipitation is expected to continue all week, picking up during the weekend.
Lower temperatures are also expected, with highs of no more than 26C (79F), and a low of 21C (70F), the MET states.
Driving advice
On Thursday, as rain prepared to fall over northern Qatar, a “waterspout” Â was spotted in Ras Laffan, sparking fears that a tornado would head inland. But luckily, the cloudy formation was short-lived, and no damages were reported.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior is warning people to drive cautiously on the roads, and adjust their speeds to the slippery conditions:
While driving in adverse conditions, reduce speed, leave adequate space between vehicles and don’t overtake except in ideal conditions.
