Thousands turn out for early-morning Eid prayers in Qatar

Undeterred by the heat and humidity, thousands of Muslim residents in Qatar woke up early this morning to attend prayers at the country’s many mosques to mark Eid Al Adha.

This year, worshipers attended services at more than 300 mosques and prayer grounds, including at the iconic Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab mosque (state mosque).

Others crowded into the streets to pray on their own rugs and mats:

The Emir and Father Emir, among others, also stood outdoors for prayers at Al Wajbah Palace.

According to the Peninsula, imams were asked to keep sermons short this year due to the weather, as temps are forecast to be in the 40s today.

Weather aside, there are a lot of activities planned around town this week, including at Souq Waqif, the Pearl-Qatar, several malls and Katara Cultural Village.
